Underway on New Fire Station
city of Formoso (Jewell County) was awarded its second KAN-STEP grant by the
Kansas Department of Commerce & Housing in July 2001 and work is now
underway on the project.
That's not to saw the local residents have been sitting on their hands for the
past several months, for quite the opposite is true. A great deal of
preparatory planning has taken place getting ready for this spring and
summer. First off, DMA Architects out of Salina developed the plans
under the supervision of local volunteer firefighters. Then, that same
group of guys, let out bids for the building shell, foundation and floor plus
sought out quotes on plumbing, electrical, heating, wood, etc.
supplies. While loose ends are being tied up on the latter items,
the main contract has been awarded so work could begin.
Treb Construction, Inc. of Tipton, KS won
the bid for building, foundation and floor construction with Wrench Construction
of Beloit the subcontract on all concrete work.
