NCKCN's Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 Upgrade Guide for Windows 98

This guide is written with the assumption that you already know how to operate your computer, and that you already know the basic terms used in this guide to describe operating your computer. NCKCN does not provide basic computer support as we do not sell computers or computer software. You must go through the Help and On-line guides on your computer first to learn how to operate your computer. There are also local businesses that provide basic computer support as well as classes from local schools that might provide this basic training.

Internet Explorer 5 Upgrade Instructions

You should already have Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or above installed on your Windows 98 computer, and have the software running and configured how you want before installing the upgrade. .Begin the upgrade installation by putting the NCKCN CD in your CD-ROM Drive. The Installation Startup will automatically start. Although the NCKCN CD has Internet Explorer 5 on it also, we do not recommend installing this unless you have at least 32MB of RAM and at least a Pentium class computer. Do not use this software to update Windows 98 Second Edition, that operating system already has IE 5.0.

To install Internet Explorer 5, simply select the option Install Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools as shown below.

Read the END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT and select the I accept the agreement option as shown below. Click the Next button to continue.

The installation will initialized as shown below.

Make sure the Install Now - Typical set of components is selected as shown below. Click the Next button to continue.

The installation process will continue as shown below. Please be patient this may take a few minutes.

After the installation program installs all the components, you will need to restart your computer. Simply click the Finish button as show below. Your computer will automatically restart. If this does not occur after a few minutes, simply restart your computer manually. After you computer restarts, it may take several minutes to update the system settings.

Using the Internet Connection Wizard

To start the Internet Connection Wizard

You can start the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW) by double-clicking the desktop Icon. The ICW will step you through to connect to NCKCN. Please read the dialog boxes to follow the wizards. They are very easy to understand.

Select the Cancel Button to use your existing Internet settings.
