Dial-in Access to the NCKCN System The Kansas Legislature passed a bill conforming to the Telecommunications Act of 1996 to allow anyone in the 785 area code to specify an Internet Service Provider in the 785 area code to provide Internet Access at a flat monthly phone rate. This means that residential customers in the 785 area code can specify NCKCN as their Internet Service Provider provided they don't have a local dial in to call. This is now for residential, commercial, and educational/non-profit. There should be two levels of access: An Off-peak level with certain restrictions, and an Unlimited Plan with access any time of the day or day of week. Anyone wanting to participate in this plan will need to contact their local telephone company to find out the details and get the service going. There may be slight differences between telephone companies on the details for the access. An example for Southwestern Bell Telephone customers is listed below. All in all, this should be a great opportunity for more "rural" folks to surf the "net". The things to do if you want to join the
