George Butler came to Rush. Co in 1870 and filed a claim, then returned to Iowa (Ohio) to get his family and brought them hack in 1873.
He was Postmaster at the Onley post office, established in 1874 1 mile east of present Timken, KS. He drove a stagecoach and carried mail from Great Bend for a number of years.
George Butler hauled the logs to build his house from an abandoned Indian Reservation near Ellsworth. He was instrumental in organizing the first Methodist Church in Rush Co., which was east of Walnut City.
Businesses listed in Rush Center in 1888 was George Butler, Dairy.
[Some discrepency there, since Will was bom in Jan 1873, George would have had to have at least made a trip to Ohio sometime in 1872. Also I think the Iowa is wrong, because there has never been any mention of them living in Iowa, only Ohio.]
