How to configure Netscape Navigator 2.0+ to play MIDI Files

It is not difficult to get Netscape Navigator to play MIDI Files. First, 2 things that must be done!

1st -- You must download Crescendo 2.0 from Live Update.

After downloading Crescendo 2.0 , extract the files and place them in your Plug-ins directory.

2nd -- You will need to configure Netscape to play the MIDI Files.

1. Select "General Preferences" from the "Options" Menu on the title bar.

2. Select the "Helpers" tab from the Preferences window.

3. Click the "Create New Type. . ." button.

4. In the Select "Configure New Mime Type" window that appears, type "audio" into the

"Mime Type:" box, and "midi" into the "Mime Subtype:" box. Then Click OK.

5. In the "File Extensions:" box, type "mid, rmi."

6. Select the "Launch the Application:" button. Then in the box, type in the name and path of you

favorite midi program. If you do not know one, and are using windows, you can use the default

mplayer.exe in your windows directory, or type "C:\Windows\mplayer.exe" in the box.

7. Click th OK button.

That's it! Now if you click on a link that goes directly to a midi file, you should have the file played

automatically instead of just seeing garbage characters on the screen.
