My grandfather, George W. McDonald and his family came to Beloit in 1906 from Girard, Kansas to work for the Boyles-Wolf Furniture and Undertaking Co., located at 107 N. Mill In 1915 grandad purchased the firm and it became, McDonald Furniture and Undertaking. My father, Vail, joined the firm in 1918 after serving in WWI. In 1929 we opened the first Funeral Home at 222 W. Main with the family living on the second floor above the funeral home.
Maurice joined the firm in 1946 after serving in WWII. The picture is our present funeral home at 910 N. Campbell which was built in 1955. Maurice and his wife Fran retired in 1989 selling the firm to their son, Mark and an employee, Max Roberts.
Maurice and his wife of 55 years, Fran, have four children, Lynda Myers and family of Lincoln, Nebr., Dr. Larry McDonald and family, Leawood, Kans., Dr. Philip McDonald and family, Sacramento, Calif, and Mark and family of Beloit.
In our retirement years we have traveled in the States as well as abroad. Fran is busy with Music Club, as a substitute Church organist and Study Clubs, and Maury busy with Rotary, Community Orchestra, as a Church Elder, and now with my MAC and Interent.
We love our community, our family with the 7 grandchildren, and our Church family. We have been richly blessed.
